Molobus: Revolutionizing Long-Distance Bus Travel in India
As a co-founder of Molobus, I’m excited to share our journey in transforming long-distance bus travel in India. Since our inception, we’ve been driven by a simple yet powerful vision: to provide an airline-like experience on long-distance buses and coaches across India.
The Opportunity: A Massive, Underserved Market
India’s transportation landscape is unique and filled with potential:
- Growing Demand: With rapid urbanization and rising GDP per capita, travel demand in India has soared 8x since 1980.
- Bus Dominance: Buses remain the most common mode of travel, with a daily ridership of 69 million passengers.
- Untapped Potential: Despite this, India has only 1.6 inter-city bus seats per 1000 people, compared to 120 in China and 27.4 in Europe.
This gap between demand and supply presents significant opportunity for innovation and improvement.
The Molobus Solution
At Molobus, we’re addressing pain points through a tech-driven approach:
- App-Driven Service: User-friendly booking and trip management.
- Superior Experience: Including comfortable reclining seats, on-board meals, clean interiors, punctual timings, and enhanced safety.
- Technology Backbone: Strong tech infrastructure for seamless operations.
- Operational Expertise: Optimizing routes and schedules using shared mobility experience.
- Everyday Low Fares: Competitive pricing for accessibility.
Early Traction and Future Plans

- Daily ridership of 280,000
- Estimated 5.7% market share
The Road Ahead
Beyond buses, the vision extends to introducing electric vehicles and expanding into Africa and Southeast Asia, fundamentally reimagining long-distance travel in India.
